Ashton-inside-Makerfield occurs as town in the metropolitan county Greater Manchester, England, and a historic county of Lancashire. It was originally referred to as Ashton-around-a-Willows & presently has the population of as much as 28,000 people. Since 1974 it has formed section of the Metropolitan Borough of Wigan.
A hand of St. Edmund Arrowsmith (1585 - 1628) is preserved as a relic in Saint Oswald's Church, Ashton-in-Makerfield.
